Reading is an important part of your education.

1st through 3rd Grade:

Dear Soon -to -be- First Through Third Graders,
You  are asked to participate in the Phoenix Public Library summer reading program. Click on the following link:

"Read your way to the Ballpark"

4th Grade:

Dear Soon-to-be-Fourth Grader,

While you are enjoying your summer vacation, we want to make sure you also enjoy reading. For your summer reading requirement, you may choose fiction or non-fiction books, one in each category or both the same. After reading the required two (or more!) books, complete the attached corresponding worksheets in your best cursive handwriting. One worksheet is for fiction books, one for non-fiction. You may use the back of the page if you need additional space. This assignment will collected during the first week of school.
If you like to read fiction, here is a group of authors and series you might enjoy, but you don't have to choose from these:
  • Dear America (historical fiction series)
  • My Name is America (historical fiction series)
  • Encyclopedia Brown Series
  • Nancy Drew & Hardy Boys Series
  • Judy Blume
  • Beverly Clearly

Have a great summer and happy reading!

5th Grade:

Dear Fourth-into-Fifth Graders,

Reading is an important part of your education and personal development. We want you to read at least two books over the summer vacation. Please choose two from the list provided. You are more than welcome to read all from the list if you choose.

Before school begins, for each book you read you should prepare a summary in one of the following ways. You must pick two different choices.
  • write a letter to the teacher telling about the book
  • write a poem about the book with illustration
  • write a different ending to the book-must be at least 2 pararaphs
  • add a new chapter
  • write a two paragraph summary

We prefer that they be typed with double spacing. If you do not have access to a computer, write out your work in your BEST CURSIVE writing. Please do not bring these with you until the teacher asks for them.

Have a great summer and happy reading!
